Dedication

An example of wholehearted dedication played out when I answered my phone one morning.  It was a fellow volunteer.  “Hey Virginia, can you find someone to pick up Jean in Perry? I think I am having a heart attack.”  “Warren” I screeched, “Have you called 911?”  “Yes, they’re here now. Gotta go.” He hung up.

I sat by the phone, my own heart tripping double time, and ran down the list of drivers. Unable to fill in myself, I found someone who could leave immediately to collect the client for her medical appointment. I was able to reach Warren’s daughter who said he was resting comfortably.

A few hours later, Warren phoned from the hospital asking if I had gotten a substitute. “Of Course” I said, “That’s never a problem. But how are you?”  “I have to have surgery, but I’ll be back soon,” he said. And he was! Commitment doesn’t get much better than that.
